About UsThis Agreement must be accepted as a condition of enrollment in the SJ Driving Academy Beginner Driver Education (“BDE”) Program. Where the student is under eighteen (18) years of age, this Agreement must also be executed by the student’s parent or legal guardian. A signed copy of this Agreement must be returned to SJ Driving Academy by email or text prior to participation.
SJ Driving Academy is a Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (“MTO”) approved and audited driving school and is certified by the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
SJ Driving Academy provides an MTO-approved Beginner Driver Education (BDE) program in compliance with MTO Regulation 473/07 and all applicable provincial standards.
The BDE program utilizes the MTO-approved online Beginner Driver Education curriculum.
The BDE program consists of twenty (20) hours of online classroom instruction, ten (10) hours of HomeLink homework, and ten (10) hours of one-on-one in-car instruction. To be eligible for certification, the student must complete all program components and achieve a minimum overall passing grade of seventy percent (70%).
A minimum of twenty-four (24) hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule any in-car lesson. Failure to provide sufficient notice may result in a $40.00 late cancellation or no-show fee per missed lesson. If an instructor arrives at the scheduled lesson location and the student is unavailable or unprepared to drive, an additional $40.00 fee shall apply and the lesson shall be rescheduled.
Students who purchase a road-test package must book their road test through the SJ Driving Academy office. SJ Driving Academy does not guarantee instructor availability for road tests booked independently by the student.
All course fees and deposits are non-refundable. A non-refundable deposit of $250.00 is required upon registration. Full payment of all outstanding course fees must be made prior to the commencement of any in-car lessons. SJ Driving Academy reserves the right to withhold, suspend, or terminate in-car instruction until payment has been received in full. SJ Driving Academy may charge reasonable administrative fees related to the collection of overdue amounts. If any outstanding balance is referred to a collection agency or legal counsel, the student and/or parent or legal guardian (where applicable) agrees to be responsible for all reasonable costs of collection, including but not limited to collection agency fees, legal fees, court costs, and disbursements, to the extent permitted by law. Failure to comply with payment obligations may result in the suspension or termination of services until all outstanding balances, including interest and applicable fees, are paid in full.
Pursuant to MTO Regulation 473/07, students must complete the BDE program within twelve (12) months from the date of their first in-class session. If the program is not completed within this timeframe for any reason, the student shall be required to repeat the online portion of the course and pay a $200.00 administrative fee. Upon certification, students requiring proof of course completion must obtain a Driver’s Licence History from Service Ontario at their own expense (currently $12.00). Successful completion of the MTO-approved BDE program permits the student to attempt the G2 road test four (4) months earlier, subject to MTO requirements.
Students must present a valid driver’s licence to the instructor prior to each in-car lesson. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of the lesson and a $40.00 fee, as students are legally prohibited from driving without a driver’s licence in their possession.
